Les Rencontres d’Arles … From 3rd July to 24th September 2017
The summer photography event Since 1970, Les Rencontres d'Arles, founded by Lucien Clergue, Michel Tournier and Jean-Maurice Rouquette, has been gathering every summer the best of contemporary photography.
The photographs you can discover are essentially unpublished productions. In parallel with the exhibitions, you can attend screenings, meetings and debates as well as the famous Night of the Year.
A lively city-museum On the occasion of the internationally renowned festival, sixty places of the city are invested to carry out this project of discoveries and encounters around photography.
In previous editions, nearly 93,000 visitors discovered the exhibitions staged in the emblematic places of the city. The scenography is one of the flagship elements of the festival with the contrast of the themes photographed and the history or age of the place that shelters them during the exhibition.
The whole city lives to the rhythm of the festival.
A real springboard for the photographers The festival presents the photography in its great diversity, notably on the level of the subjects tackled. He also intends to be as close as possible to contemporary creation: background trends, techniques and innovations, new perspectives. It promotes the work of young photographers each year (the Discovery Prize rewards one of them) by exhibiting their work, which ensures them an international reputation.
